Lifeline Outreach: About the Founder - Inger Hava
Inger or "Hava" (her preferred Hebrew name which means mother), is the widow of a well-known Christian conference speaker and writer, Art Katz, who passed away on June 28th, 2007.
Hava is a mother of three and has six grandchildren,. She is the founder of Lifeline Outreach, a ministry to the people of the West Bank in Palestine. Her ministry grew out of her compassion for a little-known Boys Home in Ramallah on the West Bank. That Home no longer operates, but Hava continues in her concern for its boys. Indeed, many of those boys are now at universities, or in careers, or moving into adulthood. Several continue to receive financial help for tuition and school needs.

Born in Denmark, Hava's English is quaint and engaging, and her unusual personality and deep love for the helpless and needy makes hearing her an experience of a memorable kind. She lives a quiet life as a mother, grandmother, friend and servant - spending her life in the service of others. She gives every ounce of energy to those around her, and somehow finds yet more to give when the occasion calls for it.
Personal note from Hava:
I
thank God for the 44 years I had with my late husband. It was a mixture of joy and
hardship - much of which made me who I am today. I am grateful for
those years. Now a new challenge lays ahead, and my prayer is that I
will not miss what God has for me to do.
For those interested, I have written a small booklet
of memoirs, where I set forth Art Katz as I knew from him. I have included anecdotal stories from our family life,
paintings and drawings by him, as well as plenty of
photos. Here is an excerpt:
"At
Pappy’s [Art's] funeral, the word or eulogy of him was “a treasure in an
earthen vessel” – indeed, he was a treasure in an earthen vessel. I
often said, and smiled, you all out there got the treasure, but the
kids and I got the earthen vessel. And it’s the memory of that vessel
that I would like to share with you all, the man I knew in that vessel."
Can you imagine
Art Katz in white shoes and wearing a pinkie ring? Well, he did. Can
you imagine an illiterate person like me, not going to school beyond
seven years and not being able to speak English when we met, being
married to a man like him? Can you imagine Art Katz being mischievous
like a naughty, little boy that is up to something he knows is wrong?
That was a sight that only I perhaps would know. Some of you may know
his laughter and smile, even his tears, but did you hear him whistle
and sing? He had a lovely voice, and could he ever whistle! And while
he whistled he would turn around like he was dancing and would tap his
feet. Yes, he could be funny. Even on his deathbed, the funny bones
cropped up.
The
proceeds from this booklet go towards making a library for Art’s books
in the main house at Ben Israel.
